Railands

In cooperation with a number of training organizations and with funding from several levels of government we have embarked on a Trackman's Training Program.  It is primarily offered to First Nations and Metis students.

To date several switches have been repaired, cracked rails replaced and  crossings refurbished. The extension to the 34 St. gate has been completely upgraded. All that remains is to level and re-ballast this 540 ft. of track.

We also have plans for an additional display track that will give us more than 1,000 feet of track around the south boundary of the parking lot.  It will not interfere with the parking but will allow us to put more of our collection on display.

We are waiting for the fill clay to complete that project.

The students live on the property for about 4 weeks.  They get training in track laying and operation of heavy equipment.

Thanks to Niall Smith and Don Weymouth for supervising this major initiative.
