Updates to the website

A number of "behind the scenes" upgrades have been installed for the Alberta Railway Museum website. The upgrades enhance the security of the site, fix some bugs and should make the user experience a little snappier as well.

If you notice anything acting weird, please email the museum (using the link on the righthand side of the page) to let us know.

Thanks!

Honorary Patron

The Honourable Norman Kwong, Lieutenant Governor of Alberta, has been our Honorary Patron for the length of his appointment to the position. A new Lieutenant Governor, Col. Donald Ethell has been appointed by Prime Minister Stephen Harper.  Col. Ethell will be asked to become our Honorary Patron.

Premier Ed Stelmach welcomed the appointment of Col. Donald Ethell as Alberta’s Lieutenant Governor designate.

“I’m pleased to welcome Col. Ethell as Alberta’s next Lieutenant Governor,” said Premier Stelmach. “Col. Ethell has had a long and distinguished career as one of Canada’s most decorated and experienced peacekeepers, for which he was honoured in 2001 with the Alberta Order of Excellence. I’m confident that Col. Ethell will serve Albertans well in his new role.”

Operating Grant September 18, 2008:

We are pleased to have been awarded a 2008 Community Investment Program Arts and Museums Building Operating Grant from the Edmonton Arts Council and City of Edmonton.  The award letter states:

"This grant, in the amount of $3, 018.97 is to support a portion of the costs associated with maintaining clean, well-lighted, heated and secure facilities that are accessible by the public and primarily dedicated for use by a range of not-for-profit arts and cultural groups."

Thanks to the City of Edmonton and the Edmonton Arts Council for this concrete demonstration of their support for the Alberta Railway Museum.
